Our Mission
Our mission at Maylo United Methodist Church is to connect people to the transformational love of God in a real and experiential way through becoming disciples of Jesus Christ. As disciples, we are learning to love the way Jesus loves and to bring lasting change in the world through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Who We Are
We Are a Congregation that Worships
The greatest commandment is that we love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:29-30). We seek to offer worship services that lift up God in every aspect—music, prayers, scripture, preaching, and sacraments—in order to deepen our love for God.
We Are a Congregation that Prays
We understand that without God we can do nothing of true value (John 15:5). Yet we believe that God responds to our prayers and works with us to accomplish far more than we could ever do on our own.
We Are a Congregation that Cherishes God's Word
We seek to be a people in whom the Word of Christ dwells richly (Colossians 3:16). We believe that God’s Word brings flourishing life through the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we prioritize taking in the Scriptures through preaching, teaching, and memorization.
We Are a Congregation Being Transformed into Christlikeness
We believe that what the world needs more than anything is people filled with Christ's love. Therefore, we gather with one another to grow together in His love and to learn how to do the things He taught (Matthew 28:19-20).
We Are a Congregation of Radical Hospitality
Jesus was known—and often criticized—for the people with whom He spent time (Matthew 9:10-13): sinners, traitors, prostitutes, religious leaders, foreign women, and anyone else who welcomed him. At Maylo, we offer a warm welcome to all, for that is how Christ has welcomed us.
We Are a Congregation on a Mission
We believe the resurrection of Jesus is the beginning of God’s restoration of our world to its original intent—a world without rejection, loneliness, poverty, disease, suffering, or death. Through the empowering of the Holy Spirit, we seek to join God in the work of eradicating these evils by engaging with our community and allowing the love of Christ to flow through us and bring healing (1 Corinthians 15:20-28).
